Origin Story

Founder of Gemini Skate

My name is K2 Alex and I been aggressive skating in the Detroit area since 2000. In 2018, I blew my knee out and I thought I would have to hang up the skates for good.  After having surgery on my knee, I found myself helping a local skate company with social media marketing and testing their new skate designs. Working in the skating industry was beyond my wildest dreams, I didn't realize it was possible and I had to skate again!

Big Wheel Blading

The first skate I tested had 110mm wheels. I was used to 60mm aggressive skates and the speed and smoothness of the bigger wheels blew my mind. I decided to transition my skating from handrails and backflips to more urban exploring and distance and my first love, the grind.

Experimental Skates

For 1.5 years my primary setup was Kizer Trimax 110mm frames, removing the middle wheel and attempting royals on ledges. I was also able to easily cruise 10 miles around the city and do almost all the same tricks as my regular aggressive skates. It was obvious that with a few modifications they could be even sicker.

Electric Skates

Simultaneously, Christopher Harold was working on an experimental electric skate. Somehow, we started DMing each other talking about our skate concepts. When Christopher said that he could help me create a custom frame, I was sold!

3D Printing

We began with a 3D printer. Christopher used his 3D modeling program and shipped the prototypes to me from France. The first frames were brittle and broke way too easily. We tried many workarounds but inevitably had to spend some cash upgrading the printer. We tried different materials and settings, but nothing was even close to functional. Yet.

Metal Skate Frames

Metal was the only solution. But how do you make a metal frame? I started doing my research and received quotes for thousands of dollars just to create a prototype. It seemed hopeless, the project was put on a temporary hold until I finally made the right connection with a local manufacturer who loves extreme sports!

Skating Innovations

We began sharing ideas about how to optimize the product. We added a flip chip spacer to allow for different wheel sizes and a middle wheel adapter to be able to quickly and completely shift to a different skating experience on the same frame. We also altered the H-block grind plate to make boot tricks on ledges super easy.

The First Product

I premiered the first prototype competing in 2023 at the Bittercold Showdown, making it all the way to the pro semi-finals. Afterwards, I took the Gemini Skate Frames on my travels to Dubai, Cyprus, London, Barcelona, and Paris skating all kinds of different environments. And they fucking worked! I was beyond stoked.

Kickstarting the Brand

As we are on the final stretch for making these available to the public, our goal is to keep em inexpensive and increase the shipping range. By collecting pre-sales, we can order in bulk and finally bring the Gemini Skate Frames to all who want a hybrid speed / aggressive skating experience at a reasonable cost!

Support Gemini Skate Frames

By buying our frame, you will be a pioneer to a new era of inline skating and it'd be rad af if you could support this project by following, commenting and sharing our posts on social media. Stay tuned for more swag, events and future products!
